Burgess Excel Blueberry Bakes

Hi readers! Burgess recently brought out 2 new treats for rabbits and guinea pigs and I thought I would review them as my pets love Burgess other food and treats.

What are blueberry bakes?
Blueberry bakes and baked treats for rabbits and guinea pigs with blueberry.

What is in them?
There are very few ingredients in these treats: Grass • Peas • Soya Hulls • Vegetable Oil • Chickpea • Apple • Carrot • Mixed Herbs • Linseed • Blueberry (1%)

How much is a packet?
These treats are £2.49 from pets at home or £2.50 from Burgess.

What do the guinea pigs and rabbits think?
Maisie: "I love these treats. They are very yummy"
Bramble: "These treats are quite nice and crunchy"
Patches: "I wasn't a huge fan of these treats (Mo: "You never are a fan of treats Bear") "
Rocky: "These are very tasty. I eat mine in one bite!"
Flopsy: "I love these! They are very tasty"

What do I think?
These treats are very natural and healthy compared to other treats that other companies sell. You can only feed one a day which is a downside but other than that they are great!

Would I buy it again?
I would buy these treats again for my rabbits and the guinea pigs.

I hope you enjoyed this review and will try these with your guinea pigs and rabbits!

HayPigs! Piggy crash pad

Hi readers! HayPigs! very kindly sent me this piggy crash pad to review with my guinea pigs.

What is a piggy crash pad?
The piggy crash pad from HayPigs! is a soft bed made from fleece for guinea pigs, degus, rats and hedgehogs. I think it would also be good for baby or small rabbits for cuddles (my rabbits wouldn't fit on it!).

How much is it?
It is £14.99 from the HayPigs! website: https://haypigs.com/shop/haypigs-piggy-crash-mat-fleece-bed

How can you use it?
There are a couple of ways you can use this bed. The first use is as a lap protector when you hold them (any guinea pig owner will know that they like to wee on people). The second use is as a bed in their cage, this would work better in a fleece lined cage otherwise it would get covered in bedding.

What do I think?
I think that this is a great bed for guinea pigs. Personally I will be using it as a bed when I cuddle them. It is also good as Bramble and Patches both fit on it!

What do the piggies think?
"whee think that this bed is very comfy"

Would I buy another one?
I would buy another one if this one broke or if I ever keep the girls on fleece as Maisie lives separately.

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Hay Pigs! Piggy weightlifter

Hi readers! Hay Pigs! very kindly sent me a couple of products to try out with my piggies.

What is a piggy weightlifter?
With veggies on

A piggy weightlifter is a kebab maker for guinea pigs.
in the packaging

How do I use it?
You can actually use this in a variety of ways. The first way is to put their veggies on it and put it on the floor or attach it to the cage. The second way is to put a small peeled banana on it and attach it to the cage. You could also put chunks of dried fruit or veg on it. Just make sure you clean it in-between uses.

How much is it?
The piggy weightlifter is £7.99 from the Hay Pigs! website: https://haypigs.com/shop/haypigs-piggy-weightlifter-vegetable-kebab-maker

What do the guinea pigs think?
"whee think it is brilliant for our veggies. it means they don't get all dirty on the floor"

What do I think?
I think that this is a brilliant idea as my girls aren't normally very active and this means they have to move about to get their food. I use it every day they get veggies and put part of their meal on this and then the rest further away, as Bramble and Patches are very territorial when it comes to food and this means they are apart, so they can't squabble over it.
It would also be a great photo prop.

Would I buy another one?
I would buy another one of these for Maisie in the future as she lives separately and is also my most active piggie so she would benefit from moving about to get her food.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Don't forget to check out HayPigs! on Instagram and YouTube @haypigs .

Where can I buy it?
You can buy it from Erins Ark Pet Shop: http://www.erinsarkpetshop.com/store/p2/Taster_Boxes.html

What do the guinea pigs and rabbits think?
The piggies: "whee think it is a brilliant box! Whee loved the pea flakes and the herbal blend as well as the veggie patch blend and skin and coat blend. Whee also liked the box....VERY tasty"
The rabbits: "this is a very good box. we hoppily ate all of the different products that are in it. we didn't get a chance to nibble the box but the squeaky things say it is tasty"

Kong classic

Hi readers! I thought I would review the classic kong.

What is a classic kong?
It is a way of feeding your dog to slow them down. It is also a great way of occupying them whilst you are eating or you have guests and your dog gets very over excited. Kong do make fillers for it but I just use Angel's normal food as she has a very sensitive tummy.

How much is it?
It is £5.99 on Amazon UK for the large size.

Pros
1. Very durable.
2. Comes in different sizes.
3. Comes in different strengths.

Cons
1. Only comes in 2 colours in the adult ones (black and red) and 2 colours in the puppy ones (baby pink and baby blue).
2. Expensive.

My thoughts
This is great for all dogs. Angel is already on her second one as she outgrew the puppy one!

I hope you will try this with your puppy! Go follow Angel on Instagram: @angel_the_cheeky_labrador and Kong at @kongcompany

Kong Knots: Scrunch Knots Fox M/L

Hi readers! I thought I would review another dog product that Angel really enjoys.

What is a Scrunch Knots Fox?
It is a soft dog toy without stuffing, with a rope inside and a squeaker in it's head.

How much is it?
UK on amazon: £5.49
USA on amazon: $7.79

Pros
1. Durable.
2. Not too expensive.
3. Has no stuffing for them to pull out!

Cons
1. Hard to find in pet shops.

My thoughts
When I gave this to Angel she absoloutely loved it! She does get bored of toys quickly but still loves chasing it.

Would I buy it again?
I would buy it again if Angel destroyed it (hopefully she won't any time soon!).

I hope you will try this with your dog or puppy! Go follow Angel on Instagram: @angel_the_cheeky_labrador

Hop To Forage: Coltsfoot

Hi readers!
Hop To Forage kindly sent me some products to review.
Visit Hop To Forage here!

What is Coltsfoot?
Coltsfoot is a wild flower. It is also naturally high in fibre and helps with digestion.

How much does it cost?
It is £2 for 50g.

Pros
1. High in fibre.
2. Good quantity for the price
3. Good for small pets digestion.

Cons
I CAN'T THINK OF ANY!

Delivery and customer service
Came four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight. Hop To Forage were very helpful and friendly.

My Thoughts
I think that this is a great product for guinea pigs and rabbits. They only need a small quantity so it does last a long time.

Would I buy it again?
I would buy this again as the guinea pigs really enjoyed it!

I hope you will try this with your small pets!

Eden dog food: Fish Cuisine

Hi readers! For a change I thought I would review a dog product. Here is the link to the food.

What is Eden dog food: Fish Cuisine?
It is a natural dog food suitable for all ages of dogs. It is 80% fish and 20% vegetables which is a healthy mix.

How much does it cost?
It is £13.80 from Eden for 2kg (or selected pet shops).

Pros
1. Comes in different size kibble pieces.
2. Natural ingredients.
3. Made using only natural ingredients from the UK.

Cons
1. Expensive compared to more common dog food.
2. Hard to find in pet shops.

My thoughts
It is a good quality food. My Labrador puppy has a very sensitive tummy and all the other foods we tried with her (Skinners, Barking heads and James Wellbeloved non grain free) just upset her stomach whereas this didn't. It is also great as we won't have to change her to an adult food when she is older as it is suitable for puppies, adult and senior dogs.

I hope you will try this food with your dog(s)!

Hop To Forage: Forage Dice

Hi readers! Hop To Forage kindly sent me some products to review. Visit Hop To Forage here!

What is a Forage Dice?

A forage dice is a cardboard box with holes in to make it look like a dice, stuffed with forage.

How much does it cost?
It is £4 which is a good price for it's size.

Pros
1. Brilliant size for guinea pigs and rabbits.
2. Would be great for hamsters and gerbils to hide in!
3. Good amount of hay and forage inside
4. Most guinea pigs and rabbits like forage.

Cons
1. Wouldn't last long if you had lot's of small pets.

Delivery and customer service
Came four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight. Hop To Forage were very helpful and friendly.

My thoughts
This is a great way to give your small pets forage. I gave it to Maisie and she ate all of the visible forage in one night which means the others will just have to eat the forage off the cardboard!

Would I get it again?
I would definitely get it again for the rabbits to try as well as the guinea pigs to have it again.

I hope you enjoyed this review and will try the Forage Dice with your small furries!

Scottish Oat Hay is exactly as it is title; Oat Hay that is grown in Scotland. Oat hay is the fresh stems of oats dried into hay.

How much does it cost?
It is £3 for 100g.

Pros
1. High is fibre to help wear down small pets teeth.

4. It looks delicious because of it's green colour.

Cons
1. More expensive than other types of hay.
2. The oat heads could be fattening.
3. Thick stems which some guinea pigs or rabbits might not like.

Delivery and Customer service
Came in four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight. Hop To Forage were very helpful and friendly.

My Thoughts
Good quality hay and very green. Well packaged and labelled, in a plastic bag. The guinea pigs really enjoyed it, as did the rabbits, which is surprising as they don't normally go for hay.

Would I get it again?
I would but only as a treat as it is quite expensive when you have multiple small pets.

I hope you enjoyed this review and will try this oat hay with your small furries!

Avens oat straw, dried carrot and ash leaf is one of Hop To Forage's treats and toppers range for small pets.

1. It is a very healthy treat for small pets compared to a lot of treats you can buy in pet shops.
2. Most small pets will like it.
3. Good quality.

Cons
1. If you have lots of small pets it wouldn't last long.

Delivery and customer service Came in four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight.

Hop To Forage: Dried carrot, Dried apple and Dried parsnip

Hi readers! Hop To Forage kindly sent me some of their products to try with the guinea pigs and rabbits. Visit Hop To Forages website here!

What is Dried carrot, Dried apple and Dried parsnip?
It is a mixture of carrot, apple and parsnip, dried so it lasts longer, specially for small pets. It has no added ingredients.

How much does it cost?
It is £2.50 for 25g.

Pros
1. Healthy treat for guinea pigs and rabbits.
2. Easy to store in a small container once opened.

Cons
1. The apple and carrot are quite sugary (more than if it was fresh).

Delivery and customer service Came in four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight.
Hop To Forage were very helpful and friendly.

My thoughts
It is quite expensive for the quantity but is very well dried and a great size for hand feeding. My guinea pigs and rabbits aren't a big fans of parsnip but loved the dried apple and carrot.

Would I get it again?
I would probably buy the individual bags of dried carrot and dried apple instead, as my pets don't like the dried parsnip.

I hope you enjoyed this review!

Hop To Forage: Micro Timothy Hay Bale

Hi viewers! Hop To Forage kindly sent me some of their products to try with the guinea pig and rabbits.

Here is Hop To Forages website

One of the products was a Micro Timothy Hay Bale. (pictured above)

What Is A Micro Timothy Hay Bale?
A Micro Timothy Hay Bale is a miniature hay bale weighing  around 1.05kg or 1050g. It is designed for rabbits and guinea pigs. There are also Micro Hay Bales with herbs and forage mixed in.

How much does it cost?
It is £5 which is a good price for most people when they want to give their pets a treat.

Pros
1. Easy to store due to small size compared to a normal hay bale.
2. Good quality timothy hay that is grown in the UK that is locally sourced by Hop To Forage.
3. Brilliant size for pairs or individual guinea pigs or rabbits.
4. Not very dusty so it is great for small pets who suffer from allergies.
5. Well compressed and held together with Baler twine like normal size hay bales.

Cons
1. Wouldn't last long with a group of guinea pigs or rabbits.

Delivery and customer service
Came in four days after they posted it out. Delivery is done with Hermes or DPD depending on the weight.
They were very helpful and friendly.

My thoughts
When it arrived I was surprised at how big it was as it looked a lot smaller online. The quality of the hay was good and even in colour.
It was packaged in brown paper which I then gave to Maisie to play with.
The guinea pigs really enjoy timothy hay and Maisie had some of the bale whilst I was taking photos and she was really enjoying it. My rabbits don't really like hay so I probably won't waste it on them!

Would I get it again?
Yes, I would as it is brilliant but would be better if the guinea pigs all lived together as then I wouldn't have to break it into three pieces. I would also recommend it to people looking to see what type of hay their small pet likes best.

I hope you enjoyed this review and will go and check out Hop To Forages website and all their products!

NEW!!! SUPREME SCIENCE SELECTIVE GRAIN FREE GUINEA PIG AND RABBIT NUGGETS

The guinea pig nuggets
HI! The lovely people at Supreme pets kindly sent me some samples of their new guinea pig and rabbit nuggets AND they are grain free! They also kindly sent me a sample pack for each of my pets.

The PRODUCTS
The products are....DRUMROLL....Grain free guinea pig nuggets and Grain free rabbit nuggets.
They are what it says on the label grain free (No wheat or any grains) and are also made from timothy hay, whereas the normal nuggets are made with lucerne (or alfalfa). Timothy hay is great for older guinea pigs and rabbits (generally over 1 year) as too much calcium in alfalfa hay can cause bladder stones which can be fatal.

My personal opinion of the nuggets
The rabbit nuggets
Bramble just wanted to try them!
Overall these nuggets are excellent. Although they are slightly more expensive than Burgess Excel (Burgess Excel guinea pig nuggets are £6.50 for 2 kg and Burgess Excel rabbit nuggets are £6 for 2 kg in Pets At Home) or the normal Supreme nuggets (Supreme guinea pig nuggets are £6 for 2 kg and Supreme rabbit nuggets are £7 for 3 kg). The new food is £7 for the guinea pig nuggets for 1.5 kg and the rabbit nuggets are £6 for 1.5 kg. I have decided to change Bramble onto these nuggets due to health problems (post on my main blog for more info) due to the fact they don't have alfalfa in them so the calcium content is reduced. I have loved supreme's products since I got Bramble (is it really 2 and a half years ago?!) due to the fact whatever product it is, my girls will eat it and as my girls are generally extremely fussy it is nice for them all to like it.
Another thing is, unlike the normal supreme nuggets for guinea pigs, they are much smaller and don't get stuck on their teeth (Maisie has done this! It is really hard to get it off. She has also done it with an acorn but that is another story!).
The rabbit nuggets are around the normal size and shape.

The piggies opinion
The guinea pig nuggets
Maisie and Patches: "Whee think they are squeakily tasty and love it as a treat". Bramble: "I love these nuggets and am very happy my hooman decided to change me onto them"

The rabbits opinion
Rocky: "I would hoppily eat these all day" Flopsy: "These are not my normal nuggets"
And the guinea pigs cheekily tried the rabbit nuggets, being the little monkeys they are! "Whee all enjoyed the rabbit nuggets!".

WOULD I RECOMMEND THESE NUGGETS?
I would recommend these nuggets to anyone with a small number of guinea pigs/rabbits or people who would like their guinea pigs/rabbits on a more natural diet but who don't have time to forage (or live in a big city)

Thank you again to the lovely people at Supreme pet foods for sending me the free samples to review.

Ferplast 100 guinea pig and rabbit cage review

Maisie enjoying her new cage
Hi readers! So yesterday I bought Maisie a new cage and thought I would review it.
Here is the video review

This cage is much bigger than Maisie's old cage (the old cage is from 2009 and was a Ferplast rodents cage!) and now I have the newer version I can't believe that people used to think that it was fine for a rabbit, let alone a pair of guinea pigs.

The old cage on top of the new cage

The dimensions of the new cage are approximately: 95cm(L) by 57cm(W) by 46cm(H) which is perfect for a single or pair of guinea pigs or a small rabbit.

It comes in 4 colours: Pink, Blue, Burgundy and Grey. I have the blue one for Maisie.

It comes with: 1x Plastic hay rack, 1x Plastic food dish, 1x Plastic water bottle, A plastic house for your guinea pig to hide in and a big access door.

Also if you buy it in Pets at home it comes with: A trial bag of Back-2-Nature, A small bag of timothy hay(well it's called a small bale but it is not that big) and a sample bag of Pets at home guinea pig or rabbit nuggets (it depends what pet you have).

Price
In Pets at home at the moment it is £35 reduced from £65 which is a good price. There is also another one that is the same type but 120cm for £50 which is a better size for rabbits.

What I think of it
I think it is much better than the old cage and gives lots more space. Compared to lots of pet store cages it is much bigger and gives your guinea pig plenty of room to run around and play. If using it for a pair they will have space to get away from each other. The hay rack holds plenty of hay for a pair of guinea pigs. The water bottle holds lots of water and doesn't leak. The food dish holds plenty of food and is washable which is always helpful with guinea pigs! The house is a good size and comes out for easy cleaning and when you clean out your guinea pigs. The access door is the whole of the front which helps when trying to catch your guinea pigs and when you need to clean out. I will definitely buy another one for Bramble and Patches at some point.

I would definitely recommend this cage to a new guinea pig owner.

Wilko meadow hay rolls for small pets 1kg

Hi readers, today I am reviewing Wilko Meadow Hay Rolls for small pets 1kg.

The Product:
Wilko meadow hay rolls are made of meadow hay (grasses, herbs and wild plants) compressed into cylinders.

The idea:
These are great to use instead of loose hay as a treat, or if you have allergies, as they are less dusty etc.

The cost:
A 1kg pack cost £3 whereas Rosewoods cost £4.50

My review:
I think these are brilliant as I am allergic to loose hay. Easy to remove from the cage and the piggies enjoyed them.

The Piggies review:
"Whee think these are yummy. Our hooman made a good choice buying these."

I really suggest these for piggie owners who are allergic to hay,

Book Worm :)

Finacard: Papelit small animal litter

Hi readers, today I am reviewing Finacard: Papelit small animal litter. Finacard kindly sent me a free sample to review.

The Product
Papelit is a non clumping small pet and cat litter by Finacard. It is paper based and dust extracted so perfect for small pets.

How To Use
I used a thin layer as the pellets are really absorbent.

My Review
I really liked this litter and used it in all the piggies litter trays. It is nicer than wooden cat litter as it is softer but is slightly harder than some other small pet pellet litters on the market. It is non-clumping, so safe if your small pets like to nibble their bedding(Maisie.....).

The Piggies Review
"Whee loved this litter even though it is slightly hard, but our hooman put shredded paper on top which whee love to snuggle in!"

Overall Opinion
I would definitely recommend this litter for small pets as well as cats. It is a brilliant litter for all small animals etc.

I hope you will try this litter,

Book Worm :)

Pellet Bed: Pet Pro and Pet Max

Hi readers, Today I am reviewing Pellet beds pet bedding. Pellet bed kindly sent me a sample of each of their small pet beddings.

PET-PRO
I feel that the Pet Pro Miscanthus clumping pellets aren't actually suitable for guinea pigs and other small animals, as small pets sometimes try to eat their bedding, and the clumping effect could cause them to choke. That seems to me to be a health risk. However, for cats and larger pets they are fine.
PET-MAX
The Pet max straw based non clumping pellets are perfect for guinea pigs and other small animals. They are very absorbent and work well in the litter trays.
OVERALL  OPINION
My overall opinion is that the Miscanthus pellets are brilliant for cats and larger animals and the straw ones are better for small animals.

I would highly recommend Pet-Max for small pets and Pet-Pro for larger animals like cats.

I hope you will try these beddings,

Book Worm :)

Wilko Timothy hay

Hi readers, Today I am reviewing Wilko Timothy hay.

The Product
Wilko Timothy hay is a hay (obviously) for rabbits and rodents.

My review
I think this hay is brilliant as it is well compressed in the bag and isn't dusty. As well as that I'm not allergic to it :) It smells sweet and the piggies love it.

The Piggies Review
Bramble, Patches and Maisie.
"Whee think it taste really good. Whee prefer it to the meadow hay rolls"

The price
This Timothy hay, is a lot cheaper than the Pets at Home Timothy hay, at only £2 instead of £4 for 1kg.

I hope you will try this hay with your small pets,

Book Worm :)

Back-2-Nature

Hi readers, Back-2-Nature recently sent me a free bag of their small animal litter to review.
Thanks Back 2 Nature :)

The product
Back-2-Nature is a paper based small animal litter.  The paper used is 99% recycled and all the packaging is biodegradable, great for the planet! It is suitable for: Rabbits, Rodents, Birds, Snakes and Ferrets.

How to use
It says to use 1-2 inches but I think a thinner layer is fine if you clean the litter tray out regularly (I clean it out twice a week). If possible spot cleaning once a day would be good.

What the Piggies think
"Whee like Back-2-nature because it is better for the environment and it doesn't break up like wood based litter"

Overall opinion
I would recommend this to people who are allergic to wood/straw/hay based animal bedding's. It is a bit pricey but is definitely worth it as after doing 4 litter tray changes + sprinkling it over the piggies other bedding's I still have half a bag left!

I hope you will try this bedding,

Book Worm :)

P.S. Next review is on Finacards papelit.
